The SPC has southern Indiana in an Enhanced risk for storms today.
The first day of spring is here.
We made it! Winter is officially over but be prepared for any kind of weather this week. During this week we will see a high temperature of 68 and a low 27. There's sunny days and rainy days. I would bring an umbrella and a jacket each day of the week just to be on the safe side.
NWS 7-day forecast.
NWS 7-day forecast.
I hoped everyone learned from that little experience.
On Monday 3/6/17, the models were suggesting any where from 8-12 inches of snow for this coming Saturday. Now they are suggesting sunny skies for this coming Saturday. Does that mean we will not see any snow this weekend? Nope. Does it mean we're getting the big one? Nope. It simply means that models are not in agreement this far out and so the information they give should not be trusted. Wait until late Thursday night or Friday morning before you trust the forecast.
The rumor mill is running strong for an event this coming weekend.
Be careful about reading exaggerated snow amounts for this weekend. A lot can change and there's still a high degree of uncertainty. Most of the systems passing through out area have put us in the warm sector. They were so strong that they pulled up enough warm air ahead of the cold front that the event was largely a rain event before changing over to a brief period of snow. That has been the predominant pattern for our area this year.
March 10 - 20, 2017 is looking very active.
The weather models are showing a highly active pattern for this period. Pay attention to your favorite weather websites for more information and follow the NWS forecast discussion.
Spotter training class was excellent as always.
Thanks to David Tucek from the NWS Indianapolis office for teaching the class. He has been doing this since 1994. He hinted at possibly retiring next year. That's about 24 years of service.
Here are some photos from last night's class:
